FRENCH PLACE is an art organisation and an incubator for critical contemporary practices. Operating as a proto–institution — situated between an art foundation and a gallery — we support experimentation, foster exchange, and offer time and space for collaboration.

Founded at 9 French Place, Shoreditch, London — FRENCH PLACE enters its next chapter in Milan, where our programme extends across exhibitions, an artist residency, and research–driven initiatives that support deep engagement with contemporary practice.

MINOR ATTRACTIONS

MARCO SICILIANO, MYOPIA
 13.10.26—17.10.26

Marco Siciliano, -1.95 (Myopia series), 2026, Digital photo, ornament glass embedded in a stainless steel frame, 30 x 21 X 1.95 cm

MARCO SICILIANO, MYOPIA

Marco Siciliano’s practice unfolds across sculpture, installation, photography, video, sound, and artist books, engaging with questions of intimacy, desire, vulnerability, and the politics of exposure. Working through fragmented narratives and material assemblages, Siciliano explores how bodies—human and non-human—are shaped by systems of care, control, and representation. His works often operate as sensitive dispositifs: spaces of tension where affect, memory, and corporeality intersect, and where personal experience becomes a lens through which broader social dynamics are examined.

Through a practice grounded in fragility and exposure, Siciliano constructs environments in which closeness and distance, attraction and unease, coexist in a state of suspension. Objects, images, and spatial arrangements become agents within intimate choreographies, inviting viewers into situations that oscillate between care and discomfort. Rather than offering resolution, his work holds these tensions open, framing vulnerability not as a weakness but as a critical and generative condition.

The diopters (-3.40, or -1.95), indicating myopia, are converted to centimetres, defining the distance between the glass and the photograph. The privacy glass, often used to decorate spaces that require discretion, blurs the image by partially obscuring the figure and leaving its reconstruction to the imagination. The frame’s metal bends to encase the glass, leaving the corners uncovered to allow a voyeuristic glimpse of the contents concealed within
